covid silver linings

During this time it can be very easy to only think about all the things that are bad about covid. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that a global pandemic is a good thing. However, there are a few good things that have come out of this for me that may not have happened if Covid hadn’t hit.

1)Weight loss

I won’t go into this again- we all know it happened!

2)Rejuvenated my love for exercise

I think I went through the classic teenager I don’t want to exercise phase. Even in first year of uni I didn’t love exercise nearly as much as I do now. Turns out that 6 months of lockdown when you’ve got nothing else to do but exercise is a really good way to revive your love!!!

3)Friendships

I have really cemented some good friendships during this time. You know who you are, but there are people who I never would have become this close with during a normal uni year. We just wouldn’t have made the time to see each other. But now a coffee with a friend is quite frankly the highlight of our social life, so I’ve really been making the effort to do this. Love my lovely new friends (and old ones too!)

4) Exploring Edi

Not going to lie I kind of thought Edinburgh was just Newington, Arthurs Seat and Princes Street (yes, really.) But when clubs, pubs and restaurants are closed theres not much else to do except explore explore explore. Recently I’ve checked out blackford Hill (definitely the best view in Edinburgh) a beautiful little cycle path from Musselburgh to Edinburgh and Dean’s Village as well as many adorable little cafes (because with the money we’re saving on clubbing many brunches are definitely needed!) My top two from the last few weeks has gotta be Kaiui (cheers to Nicky and Charne for spending lots of money with me here) and Hula Hula- where I had the best flipping toastie and soup I’ve genuinely ever had.

5)Podcasting and Reading

I swear to goodness that pre covid I had never listened to a podcast. Equally, despite loving reading, I’d neglected it slightly- largely because when you’re tired it’s a lot easier to whack on Netflix than it is to choose a podcast/pick up a book. But thanks to covid I’ve had a lot more time, meaning that podcasts and books are a must- and I’ve really really enjoyed them.

6)appreciated pre covid way more

This is a bit of a contradictory one. But I will never take going to Subway, a pub, or even to my friends house for dinner for granted ever again.
