Inspirations

Warning- this is a bit of a soppy one

As you’re all aware this is a pretty stressful, worrying time. Many days it can seem like there’s no end date to this pandemic and on those days it can sometimes be hard to remember what we can be grateful for. So I thought I’d do a little blog about my inspirations during my fitness journey and in life as a whole.

1)My mummy

She gets top of the list. Always. Without her I would never have stuck at the weight loss, would never have started running and would generally never be where I am today. She’s fought countless injuries during her running and despite an insanely busy schedule of shipping my sister and me around she still manages to get up every day before work and go for a run. If I am half as fit as she is when I’m her age I will be pretty damn proud.

2)My friends

There’s about a billion people I could reference here- but obviously I can’t reference them all. Therefore I’ve picked out people from waterpolo specifically who particularly inspired me to keep going with my fitness because of their own incredible athleticism and motivation.

a)Leah

If you’ve ever played any kind of waterpolo you probably will have heard of her. She is a ridiculously talented player, is insanely fit and the best part is- isn’t remotely cocky. She must have sent me a message most days in lockdown encouraging me and saying how proud she is. Corona means she’s currently stuck in South Africa but she still manages to motivate me and inspire me daily.

b)Alice

She’s swapped between about a billion different sports. She’s trained with the firsts after not playing polo for years. She’s dealt with a family member being the coach and the assumptions that might bring. Yet she’s smashed it. She’s also gorgeous and the nicest girl I know.

c)Talia

Tal somehow managed to play in BUCS waterpolo matches after only playing for a couple of weeks. That’s right- she literally had never held a polo ball before playing our big BUCS match. I don’t even know how to begin to illustrate the amount of respect I have for her. Playing your first match is pressure enough, but to play your first match, for a first team, against one of the best teams in the country??? That takes some serious balls. She’s also improved as a player so much since she started playing. I’m in awe.

d) Charne

The one. The only. You all know by know who this gal is. I won’t say anymore about her- except that without her, I would struggle.

There's about a billion other friends I could mention here- Amy, Nicky, Hannah, Grace- I love you all- and thankyou so much for being my daily fitness inspirations.

3)My sister

She’ll probably die of cringe after reading this. But for those of you who don’t know, my sister Lilymay is captain of GB waterpolo for her age group. Pretty insane right? She somehow manages to play polo, do 3 A levels at a pretty tough school and play about a billion other sports simultaneously. Oh and did I mention? She’s also head girl. Talk about juggling a hell of a lot of balls. I am so proud of her- and just have to speak to her to get a reboost of motivation and inspiration.

So if you have a day like I did today- when corona is seriously getting you down, think about your inspirations and the people you are grateful for. Trust me-it really helps!!!
